Microsoft continues to update Office 2016 for Mac in order to provide new functionality to users. It also rolls out security updates and non-security updates for the productivity suite regularly. The January 2018 release for Office 2016 for Mac is rolling out now and among the several new features that it brings, it also adds real-time collaborative editing to the productivity apps.

Office 2016 for Mac has been updated to version 16.9 and it brings real-time collaborative editing to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. This means that multiple people will be able to work on a document together at the same time. Users will see thumbnails in the corner of the window to show who else is working on the same document as them. The flag icons make it easier to track and identify who is responsible for what changes.

The updated productivity suite also saves changes automatically for documents, worksheets, and presentations stored in the cloud. Users will be able to see others’ updates in seconds. They can easily check the version history for a list of changes and access earlier versions when required.

Excel gets new charts, more functions, better support for PivotTable charts, and faster multi-threaded calculation. PowerPoint users will be able to use their mouse as a laser pointer in Slide Show and remove unwanted content from the beginning or end of an audio or video clip from within the app itself.

Lastly, Outlooks users can organize their inbox by swiping left with two fingers across the touchpad to archive an email or simply swipe right to delete it. The updated Office 2016 for Mac is now available for users across the globe.
