Samsung To Bring Its SmartThings App Onto Its Smartwatches

[CES 2018] With the Apple Watch, users are capable of controlling some of their connected household appliances via the wearable, which makes perfect sense if you’d rather not walk around your home with your phone. The good news is that at CES 2018, Samsung has announced similar functionality for its Gear series of wearables.

During Samsung’s CES 2018 conference, Samsung’s Alanna Cotton, Vice President and General Manager Mobile Computing and Wearables said, “We’ve been leading the wearables journey for four years. In 2018 we’re taking it to the next level, bringing the SmartThings app to the Gear S3 and Gear Sport. Whether it’s dimming the lights to set the perfect mood for dinner, or setting the house to the ideal 71-degrees before I get home, I’ll be able to control my environment in new ways, right from my wrist.”

For those unfamiliar, SmartThings is basically Samsung’s hub for connected devices, which they have baked into several of their recently-announced household appliances. The integration of SmartThings will also help to encourage adoption of Samsung’s Gear series of wearables, in which it has actually been a while since we last saw a new device, so hopefully this could mean that Samsung could have new Gear devices in the works.
