We often see an odd kind of challenge trending on YouTube and it feels like within days anyone and everyone on YouTube uploads a video taking part in the said challenge to provide content for their audiences. Previous examples include the cinnamon challenge which had people trying to ingest copious amounts of the spice for no apparent reason. The latest trend involves Tide Pods and it’s a good thing that YouTube has started pulling those videos before things get out of hand.

The Tide Pod challenge videos show YouTubers trying to eat a Tide Pode while filming them. If you’re unclear what a Tide Pod is, rest assured it was never meant to be edible. They’re laundry detergent pods.

Eating Tide Pods may have started off as a meme but the trend has taken a life of its own with YouTubers trying to jump on the bandwagon quickly. Eating detergent for the sake of views doesn’t seem like a very sound decision, to be honest.

YouTube is trying to get ahead of the matter by pulling Tide Pod challenge videos from its platform. The company has confirmed in a statement that it’s doing that, explaining that “YouTube’s Community Guidelines prohibit content that’s intended to encourage dangerous activities that have an inherent risk of physical harm. We work to quickly remove flagged videos that violate our policies.”

YouTube’s policy also states that channels that have a video removed on the abovementioned grounds will receive a strike and if they get too many strikes it may lead to the suspension of their channel.
