The concept of foldable phones aren’t exactly new. In fact to a certain extent clamshell phones are technically considered foldable, and companies such as Kyocera have in past launched similar handsets. In fact last year ZTE launched their own foldable phone, the ZTE Axon M, and it seems that the company plans to build on it.In an interview with Engadget held during CES 2018, Jeff Yee who is the vice president of marketing at ZTE USA said that the Axon M had been received very well by those who bought it. He was also quoted as saying that ZTE plans to expand on their efforts over time. “We’ll eventually get to something that’s truly bendable. There’s a lot of others things that we might be adding over time.”
Now “truly bendable” is an interesting term, especially since ZTE is not alone in their efforts. Samsung is also said to be working on a similar device and is expected to debut it at the end of the year, where we will finally have a truly foldable smartphone. LG has also made some impressive strides, what with launching a 65-inch OLED display that can be rolled up like a set of blinds.
We’re not sure when we might see something that’s “truly bendable” from ZTE, but it is nice to know that we could have some variety in terms of foldable smartphones in the future, not just from Samsung.
