In 2017 Apple announced the iMac Pro which is an iMac designed for professionals who want a more space-saving desktop to work on. While its all-in-one design is space-saving, that’s pretty much all the saving that it will do because a fully-specced out iMac will set customers back as much as $14,000, but is it worth it?

That’s what filmmaker and YouTuber Parker Walbeck tries to find out in the video above, where he compares a fully decked out iMac Pro that costs $14,000, versus a fully-specced regular iMac which is priced at $6,000. By comparison the iMac seems cheaper, but clearly paying $6,000 for a desktop computer is still a lot of money.

Now both computers feature different hardware, with the iMac Pro packing twice as much RAM, twice as much storage, and also a GPU with twice as much VRAM. They also sport different processors, different GPU models, and the RAM speeds are different, but once again the question is, is it worth the difference of $8,000?

Spoiler alert: the iMac Pro is very clearly the winner in terms of performance, where Walbeck’s testing essentially found that the iMac Pro is roughly 2x faster than the normal iMac. For those who work in film and need to process large files, this makes a huge difference between waiting an hour versus waiting 30 minutes, but in any case if you have five minutes to spare, you might want to check out the video above for more details.
