If you’re the type that loves to stay on top of the news and things happening around the world, a good way to do so would be to look out for “breaking” news articles. We had previously heard that Facebook was planning on add a “breaking” label to such articles, and now it looks like Facebook will indeed be doing something similar.

However instead of it being attached to articles, Facebook will introduce the feature to Facebook Watch where the social networking giant will be creating a news section which will feature “breaking news”. This was revealed during the Code Media event by Facebook executive Campbell Brown who is heading up the company’s news partnerships program.

Unfortunately Brown stopped short on mentioning when it would be launching, or which outlets will be taking part. However Facebook did highlight the importance and relevance of local content, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the “breaking news” stories you see under the Watch section might be catered towards your area, save for some topics that could have worldwide implications.

In any case it will be interesting to see how this plays out and whether or not users will be receptive to the idea, but what do you guys think? Is a “breaking news” section something you’d be interested in on Facebook?
