Last year a home security camera called Lighthouse was launched. Given that home security cameras are a dime a dozen, ranging from well-known brands like Nest, to super cheap ones like the WyzeCam, there are many options already available to consumer, but Lighthouse set itself apart by introducing AI to the mix.
The good news is that nearly after a year of being announced, it looks like the Lighthouse home security camera is now shipping to customers. The device was originally planned for a release last September but it was delayed, but now it looks like the camera is finally available for purchase and will cost customers $299.
However that’s not all as there will also be a AI service plan that customers will have to subscribe to. This is charged at $10 a month (with a free 90-day trial), or an upfront fee of $200, which means that in total customers can expect to pay as much a $500 upfront. Like we said, the Lighthouse camera distinguishes itself from some of the competition through its AI features.
Through the use of AI, it will be able to distinguish between objects like people and pets. There is also a built-in laser that can measure the structure it is placed in, which helps differentiate objects, and also helps reduce false positives as the camera can tell when it is a shadow and also differentiate between small and large objects.
