Last year alongside the Galaxy S8, Samsung also announced the DeX Station dock. This is an accessory for the phone that when connected to a display, will allow users to use their phones like a computer, similar to Windows 10’s Continuum feature. It has been rumored that Samsung could be redesigning the accessory, and it looks like the renders have leaked.

In a tweet by the ever-reliable Evan Blass, renders of the upcoming “DeX Pad” have been revealed. As you can see, this looks very different from its previous iteration where instead of the phone being propped up, the phone will now lie flat on the device. In this positioning, the idea is that users will be able to use their phones as a touchpad or even a virtual keyboard when interacting with it while docked.

It certainly changes the way the accessory and the phone will be used, but whether or not it will be for the better remains to be seen. It is unclear if Samsung plans on discontinue the DeX Station in favor of the DeX Pad, or if Samsung will offer both accessories to give users options as to how they want to dock their devices.

In any case more details will probably be revealed at Samsung’s event at MWC which has been confirmed for the 25th of February.
