If one of the things you feel is missing from the OnePlus 5 and 5T handsets is HD Netflix playback, you’ll be pleased to learn that OnePlus has recently announced that both phones will be updated that will support HD playback on either phone. This is no doubt great news, but there is a rather inconvenient catch.

The catch is that users who want the update will need to send their phones back to OnePlus to update it for them. OnePlus claims that this is due to the security processes involved, in which the phones can only be updated via a physical connected from an authenticated PC, which presumably will be at the company’s offices/service center.

However the good news is that if you live in North America, Europe, India, or China, OnePlus will cover the courier costs. “We’re covering the courier costs for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T customers who would like the update, as you will need to send your device to us to update. We have a process in place which means we’ll have your handset back to you in no more than five working days from when we receive it.”

The company’s rep admits that this is hardly a “handy” approach, but it seems that this is the only option that customers have at the moment. For owners of either device, you will have to get in touch with OnePlus if you’d like to take them up on their offer.
