If you were to fire up any review of the HomePod at the moment, many are in agreement of Apple’s claims of a set of great sounding speakers, and that for the most part it sounds better than some of the competition out there, namely the Sonos One and Google Home Max. However at least one review doesn’t think so, and that is the review from Consumer Reports.

According to the report, they claim that the Sonos One and Google Home Max actually sound better. The publication is expected to share their full test results in the next few weeks, but based on their findings so far, they claim that the Sonos One and Google Home Max apparently sound better.

The report reads, “The HomePod’s bass was a bit boomy and overemphasized. And the midrange tones were somewhat hazy, meaning that some of the nuance in vocals, guitars, and horns was lost: These elements of the music couldn’t be heard as distinctly as in more highly rated speakers. Treble sounds, like cymbals, were underemphasized.”

This is actually a rather interesting observation, especially when the former CEO and co-founder of Sonos actually admitted that the HomePod does sound better compared to the Sonos One. There have also been analysis conducted by self-professed audiophiles which found the speakers to be “audiophile grade”.

However to each their own, as there are some who might consider boomy bass to be a bad thing, while there are some who might prefer having a more flat/neutral sound.
