Those who own a Sony Xperia X or Xperia X Compact can rejoice but it appears that the company has now started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for these handsets. Sony has been quick to update some of its devices to the latest iteration of Android. It first released the update for the Xperia X Performance back in November last year. It has now rolled out the firmware update for the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact.

Sony released the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact back in 2016 with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow onboard. They then received an upgrade to Android 7.1.1 Nougat last year. Both handsets are receiving build number 34.4.A.0.364 over-the-air which brings the much awaited Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Xperia X and the Xperia X Compact.

All of the new features and improvements that are part and parcel of Android 8.0 Oreo are included in the firmware update that’s now rolling out for both handsets. Users will also notice some performance improvements due to optimization, a new picture-in-picture mode, a new emoji style, autofill, Smart Text Selection, and more.

Sony is now rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact over-the-air. It’s going to take a while before the OTA goes live in all regions.
