Some of you guys might recall that back in 2014, Yahoo attempted to try and integrate itself deeper in Android by launching Aviate (after acquiring them in the same year). For those unfamiliar, Aviate billed itself as a smart launcher where depending on the user’s preferences and habits, will display information contextually.

Unfortunately it looks like Yahoo has ultimately decided to shut it down. In an announcement on its website, Yahoo announced that they will be shutting down Aviate starting on the 8th of March, 2018. However this does not mean that the launcher will cease to work, it’s just that users shouldn’t expect new features or updates anymore.

According to Yahoo, “Yahoo Aviate Launcher will no longer be supported after Thursday, March 8, 2018. You will no longer see new content in the stream, and Aviate will not be supported or updated. Thank you for being a loyal Aviate user. We learned a lot working on Aviate for you, and hope you enjoyed the experience.”

This move doesn’t really come as a surprise considering that Google has made vast improvements to Android since then, where it can now do many things by default that in the past would have required a separate, dedicated app. In any case will any of you guys miss Aviate, or did you forget that it actually existed?
