The rumors are claiming that Canon might have a high-end mirrorless camera in the works, and even Sony is predicting that the company could have one ready to launch in the next year or so. Now it looks like Canon might have very well confirmed those rumors according to a recent interview with DPreview.According to the interview in which the publication spoke to several Canon executives, they were asked about Canon’s plans for high-end mirrorless cameras. According to the execs, “At Canon we have what’s called a ‘full lineup strategy’. This means that we want to satisfy all of the demands in the market, so we have mirrorless and also DSLR, which combined makes an EOS hierarchy. We want to fill the gaps to satisfy customer demands across the board.”
They also add, “In the EOS hierarchy we have cameras from entry-level to professional with different features. When it comes to mirrorless cameras, we have entry-level models, and we’ve just about started on the mid-range class. What that tells you is that Canon is confident about mirrorless technology within this range of products.”
Basically it sounds like Canon plans on starting from the bottom and working their way to the top, which only serves to hype up the company’s products. However whether or not it will come in the next year or so remains to be seen, but according to Canon, they feel like there is still quite a bit of work to do before they can reach a level of satisfaction that lets their users “confidently move from DSLR to mirrorless”.
