Google has recently been adding new features to Chrome OS that are inspired by some features that have long been available on Android. This includes features like inline notifications which are headed to Chrome OS and even split-screen mode which will land on the web-based OS with Chrome 66. It appears that Chrome OS may also receive the lock screen notifications feature that has been available on Android for several years now.

A new commit has been discovered in the Chromium Gerrit which shows that a lock screen notifications feature is being tested for Chrome OS. This feature has been available on the mobile platform since Android Lollipop. It enables users to easily manage notifications on their handset without having to unlock the device first.

The references in the Gerrit include “Show Message Center on lock screen behind flag” which adds a new flag to enable lock screen notifications. When it’s enabled, the feature will display Message Center with notifications on the lock screen. One difference between Message Center on the lock screen and unlocked device is that the former won’t have a settings button.

Many Chrome OS users will be happy when this feature is rolled out as it’s going to make their life easier. However, it’s unclear at this point in time when Google is planning on rolling out this feature to all Chrome OS users.
