Google announced its Files Go file manager app late last year. There are already a plethora of file manager apps available for Android on the Google Play Store but the company’s own app is a straightforward option for those looking to dive into their device’s memory. Google is rolling out a new update for Files Go today which enables the app to provide even smarter search functionality for files.

Files Go not only allows users to manage their files but it also helps them in freeing up space on the device. It makes personalized suggestions regarding the items that users can delete to free up more space such as unused apps, duplicates, and more.

Files Go will now let users search for files on their phone just like they search the web with Google. The company has added its search expertise to the app which means that it now has features like instant results, autocomplete, filters, and search history.

The app has made it easy from the start to remove duplicate files and now when it suggests duplicates for removal, it will also provide the location of the file when users long press on the thumbnail and tap the “i” icon.

Last but not the least, Files Go can now work seamlessly with Google Photos. Once the photos and videos have been backed up to Google Photos, the app can automatically detect and prompt the user to delete those files in order to free up more space on the device.

The updated Files Go app is now available for devices powered by Android.
