Huawei launches its new Mate handsets toward the end of every year which is why reports that the Mate 20 might be launched in the summer this year are a bit surprising. Word out of China claims that Huawei is going to launch its Mate 20 handset earlier than expected this year. However, just because an early launch has been claimed doesn’t mean it’s actually going to happen.

Rumor has it that Huawei’s next Mate lineup won’t be called the Mate 11 even though the existing handsets are called Mate 10. The company is expected to major a straight jump to the number 20 which would be in line with what it’s going to do with the Huawei P20 later this month.

It’s also claimed that the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro will feature up to 6 inch displays and will be powered by Huawei’s Kirin 980 processors with up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The new handsets may also feature 12 + 20 megapixel dual cameras and an 8 megapixel front camera.

Bear in mind that this is the first such rumor that we’ve heard about the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro and it can be said with certainty that we’ll hear a lot more in the months to come.

No concrete evidence has surfaced so far to suggest that the company will launch these handsets ahead of schedule so we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.
