Samsung Smart TVs To Get Roku’s Movie Channel

Roku is launching its ad-supported movie and TV channel on third-party smart TVs in the United States starting with Samsung. The Roku Channel was launched in September last year and has only been available on Roku streaming devices and TVs powered by Roku OS. That’s going to change starting this summer when the Roku Channel is released for Samsung smart TVs.

The Roku Channel is ad-supported and brings hit Hollywood movies and TV shows for free. Roku says that it’s “expected to be available on select Samsung smart TVs this summer.”

Keep in mind that the Roku Channel only offers movies and TV shows that has been licensed. The company isn’t into making original content, not yet anyway, as there have been rumors that Roku could get into original content as well at some point in the future.

It’s already a popular resource on the Roku platform, a top 20 channel in fact, and has been very well received by viewers as it gives them access to free entertainment. The Roku Channel provides all of that for free while featuring approximately half the advertising per programming hour compared to traditional linear TV, according to Roku.

We’ll know more about which Samsung smart TVs will get the Roku Channel later this year.
