Microsoft’s Edge browser is much better compared to Internet Explorer but a lot of people still use third-party browsers such as Chrome on Windows 10 machines. However, Microsoft is testing a new method that will essentially force users to open Edge. The company is essentially going to force Windows 10 Mail users to use the Edge browser for links clicked on within the email client.

The company has said that “we will begin testing a change where links clicked on within the Windows Mail app will open in Microsoft Edge.” The change is being tested in the latest test build of Windows 10.

What that means is that even if you have Chrome or any other browser set as the default on your computer, Microsoft will ignore that default setting and open the link that you clicked on inside the Windows 10 Mail app in Edge.

As you can probably imagine, those who don’t use Edge for a variety of reasons won’t suddenly warm up to the browser when they’re forced to open it regardless of their default setting. This may only infuriate those users and push them to dump Microsoft’s native email client for a third-party option.

“As always, we look forward to feedback from our WIP community,” the company says in its blog post announcing this change, so one can only hope that it takes that feedback into account and reconsiders this decision.
