As it stands Apple News is more like a collection of various articles pulled from various publications. However last month Apple announced and confirmed that they had acquired Texture, which many consider to be the Netflix for magazines where users paid a fix amount for unlimited access to magazines.

Now according to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is looking to leverage their latest acquisition by integrating it into Apple News. The end result is a news subscription service that would be similar to what Apple has done for Apple Music, except for news. Some analysts in the past have suggested that Apple should look into getting into a more subscription-like business model, and this certainly sounds like what Apple could be doing.

This is actually not the first time Apple has attempted a news subscription service. Several years ago ahead of Apple News, the company had Newsstand that combined magazine and newspaper subscriptions, except that this was done on per-publication basis meaning that subscribing to multiple publications could end up being rather costly.

With this new all-you-can-consume model, it would help make things more affordable and could spur more signups. As to when this rumored subscription will launch, it is unclear but with WWDC 2018 coming up perhaps we will learn more about it then.
