While developed markets are a great place to sell high-end handsets that offer a larger profit margin, the upside to emerging markets is usually population, where companies can focus on selling in quantity. This is why markets such as China and India are home to many budget handsets from all sorts of companies.

ASUS seems to understand this pretty well because the company has recently launched a new sub-$200 smartphone in Indonesia and India in the form of the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro. The handset in question isn’t exactly the most powerful phone we’ve seen, but what ASUS has done is that they’ve built it based on a survey they’ve conducted with about 2,000 participants, presumably building a phone based on what users actually want.

The end result is a phone that features a 6-inch 2,160 x 1,080 IPS LCD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset, and a rear-facing fingerprint sensor. There is also a 13MP + 5MP rear-facing camera combo, an 8MP front-facing camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and it will support dual SIM and will come with Android 8.1 Oreo preinstalled.

No word on whether or not ASUS has plans to bring the ZenFone Max Pro to other markets, but given its specs and pricing, $200 doesn’t seem too much to ask for a phone that seems to be decently powered.
