Microtransactions, whether you like it or not, are here to stay. Naturally there have been a ton of criticisms regarding microtransactions where some believe that it leads to pay-to-win games, which it has, although there are plenty of developers who use it purely for cosmetic purposes. However EA thinks that microtransactions are important, but only if they are done right.

According to EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson, he was quoted as saying, “We believe that live services that include optional digital monetization, when done right, provide a very important element of choice that can extend and enhance the experience in our games. We’re committed to continually working with our players to deliver the right experience in each of our games and live services.”

EA not too long ago came under fire for its loot boxes introduced in Star Wars: Battlefront 2. It led to many questioning loot boxes in general and whether or not it constituted as gambling. Some have agreed that it does, while others don’t and have instead come up with warnings and also notices that let players know the chances of them winning before they decide to play.

Like we said microtransactions is a model that is definitely here to stay, especially when it allows developers and publishers to earn more beyond just the sale of the game itself.
