Many were expecting great things from Essential and the Essential Phone PH-1. After all this is a company led by Android’s Andy Rubin and given his tenure and experience with Android and Google, it was expected that he would have taken all of that into creating a so-called “perfect” Android phone.

Unfortunately the Essential Phone left a lot to be desired, but for those who still think that the phone is right for them, you’ll be pleased to learn that the Essential Phone has had its price dropped to $400. Ever since its release, the phone has been on the receiving end of price cuts. The $400 price tag was seen before during the Cyber Monday sales but presumably this price cut is permanent.

Note that the new price cut is only applicable to Amazon and Best Buy for now. It also makes it about $100 cheaper than what other retailers are selling it for, and also $200 cheaper than its official price. It is unclear if this is a promotion or a permanent cut, so you might want to move fast if this is something you’re interested in.

In the meantime Essential has stated that its next phone will be better, but unfortunately there is no word on when the Essential Phone 2 is expected to be launched.
