It has been a long wait for Oreo for many Android users as the latest iteration of Google’s mobile platform is yet to be released for their devices. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are both compatible with Oreo but the update hasn’t arrived as yet. However, it appears that this might change soon, as the Oreo update has now inched closer to its release for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

Both Samsung flagships from 2016 were recently certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance running Android 8.0 Oreo less than two weeks ago. These certifications are normally an indication that an update’s release isn’t that far off.

Those certifications were for unlocked variants and now all U.S. carrier variants of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have received their Wi-Fi certifications as well. They include models for AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile.

It may not be long before Samsung releases Oreo for these devices as the company is now readying the Oreo update for some older devices. It has already started rolling out Oreo for the Galaxy A5 (2017) and will eventually expand the update for that device to other markets as well.

Oreo will be the last major platform upgrade for the Galaxy S7 as it has been almost two years since the device was originally released and Android devices are typically not supported for major platform updates after two years.
