For the past few decades, actor Harrison Ford has managed to successfully create several iconic roles for himself, such as Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise, and also as Indiana Jones in which he has played the character for four movies, with a fifth in the works that is expected to begin filming in 2019.

However in an interview with The Sun, director Steven Spielberg has revealed that Indiana Jones 5 (in which the title is still unknown) will be Ford’s last movie in the Indiana Jones franchise. According to Spielberg, “This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that.”

As to what the future of the franchise holds, Spielberg seems to be pretty open to the idea that the next Indiana Jones could be played by a woman. “We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that.” He adds, “My mom was strong. She had a voice, she had a very strong opinion. I have been very lucky to be influenced by women, several of whom I have just loved madly — my mom and my wife.”

For a brief moment it seemed like Shia Labeouf would have carried on the mantle of Indiana Jones after it was revealed in the fourth movie that his character was Jones’ son, but that will no longer be happening.
