Many are understandably curious as to what the future might hold for consoles. Could companies be looking to launch brand new consoles, or could it be like the analysts predict and that we might see incremental upgrades with every refresh? That definitely remains to be seen, but as far as one analyst is concerned, 2020 could be the year we see next-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

According to a report from Gamingbolt, they managed to talk with Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter where according to his predictions, “You know, I think Microsoft could try isolated launches, but the Xbox One X pretty much process they’re not going to do that. It launched far too recently, so I don’t see a new Xbox launching in 2019, I don’t think so. And the thing is, both companies are pretty much aware of what the other guy is doing, so they’ll know if someone is working on a new console, and it’s coming. I think both the next Xbox and PS5 are 2020.”

The idea of the new consoles launching in 2020 doesn’t seem like a stretch. In fact it is in line with an earlier report which suggested that the PS5 would launch in 2020 at the earliest, if not possibly later. Given that it has only recently that Sony and Microsoft launched the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X respectively, we reckon they’ll want to give gamers some time before launching their next console.
