Opera’s Free VPN App Will Be Shutting Down April 30

There are several VPN services available out there, but some of them require users to pay a monthly subscription. However several years ago, Opera announced their own free VPN app for mobile that launched on both iOS and Android, but unfortunately it seems that Opera has ultimately decided to shut its services down.

In an announcement on its VPN website, Opera has revealed that the VPN will be shutting down on the 30th of April. This will apply to both iOS and Android users of the app. As for those who are Opera Gold users, not to worry because Opera has announced that these subset of users will be able to redeem a 1-year free subscription to SurfEasy Ultra VPN, which is an alternative VPN service that the company is recommending.

As for those who aren’t an Opera Gold subscriber, not to worry because Opera has announced that these users will still be able to enjoy the SurfEasy Ultra VPN service at an 80% discount. Granted it’s not as good as free, but 80% is a pretty huge discount and could result in a fair amount of savings.

That being said, it should be noted that Opera’s VPN shut down is only applicable to the version launched on mobile. It seems that for now Opera’s desktop browser will continue to offer VPN services.
