Razer confirmed last month that it would release Android 8.1 Oreo for the Razer Phone in April. It has been a long wait for Oreo as the company is upgrading the device directly from Nougat since it decided to bypass the Android 8.0 Oreo release entirely. Razer Phone owners will now be delighted to know that the company has started rolling out Android 8.1 Oreo for their device over-the-air.

Razer confirmed a few weeks ago that it’s going to bypass the initial Oreo release due to compatibility issues. It decided to skip straight to Android 8.1 Oreo instead which is currently the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system.

When the announcement was made, Razer launched a developer preview of the update which users could sideload if they wanted to. It was expected that the final update would start arriving in mid or late April and Razer today started the OTA rollout of Android 8.1 Oreo for the Razer Phone.

The official press release adds that the update also brings “under-the-hood improvements for a better overall experience, Dolby Atmos app improvements and support for the Netflix widget.” All major security patches and bug fixes are included in it as well.

The update is rolling out today in phases so it might take a while before it goes live for users. It’s only a matter of time now before all Razer Phone owners can finally get a taste of Oreo.
