The Crash Bandicoot revival last year was well received and the publisher later hinted at a new five-year plan for the series which also includes a new title for next year. A recent report had revealed that Activision was thinking along the same lines for Spyro the Dragon trilogy. It has officially confirmed the Spyro Reignited Trilogy for the PlayStation 4 today.

It was first reported in February this year that Activision is working on a remaster of the Spyro series for PlayStation 4 and that the trilogy includes Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon titles.

Activision has handed the development duties to Skylanders developer Toys for Bob. The developer says that it’s approaching the process with a deep respect for all of the decisions that went into making the original titles. The original titles were developed by Insomniac Games and while the studio isn’t officially involved in the development or production of this trilogy, Toys for Bob showed the early iterations of the game for feedback.

One of the first things that the team agreed upon was that all of Spyro’s original movement metrics such as running, jumping, charging, gliding, flying, and more will be matched as closely as possible.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is going to be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 21st this year with improved environments, updated controls, new lighting, and recreated cinematics. It will cost $39.99.
