Best Buy has launched a new version of its Geek Squad service to provide customers with round-the-clock support. The new service is called Total Tech Support and it promises total support, as the name suggests, for $200 per year. Those who subscribe to it will be able to get 24/7 tech support online and over the phone but it’s not as simple as that.

The service is going to provide tech support for most gadgets that subscribers have in their home even if those products weren’t purchased from Best Buy itself. Subscribers will be able to get in-store support as well for simple tasks such as data transfers between PCs, removing viruses, and even “Level 1 Data Recovery.”

Despite having to pay $200 per year for a Total Tech Support subscription, subscribers will still have to pay good money to get Geek Square services. For example, if they need help with someone that involves a visit from a support personnel, that’s going to cost $50 at least. It may make sense for those who need multiple visits in one year but not so much for those who don’t.

The $50 fee doesn’t cover everything, mind you, as it doesn’t include wiring up systems, repairing devices, and even advanced installations such as mounting a TV to something other than drywall. The only benefit members get is a 20 percent discount on what Best Buy normally charges for these services. Best Buy has now launched its Total Tech Support service across the United States.
