If you grew up as a kid in the mid to late 1980s, chances are you might be very familiar with a cartoon series known as the ThunderCats, although it was revived again in 2011 but safe to say that it probably doesn’t have the same feel or nostalgia as the original. Now it looks like we’ll be treated to a third reboot, but this time done in a very different way.

In a report from Entertainment Weekly, it seems that the folks at Cartoon Network will be bringing back the ThunderCats in a new form called ThunderCats Roar. The new series will feature the same characters as the original, which includes Lion-O, Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, Snarf, and WilyKit and WilyKat.

It is also largely expected to follow the same story, except that in this case and as you can see in the trailer above, it will be a slightly more comedic version of the original. The drawings are certainly more whimsical and seems to be in line with some of the series that Cartoon Network (and cartoons in general these days) are pushing.

We’re not sure how well-received the new version of ThunderCats will be, but we suppose trying something new instead of giving us more of the same isn’t such a bad idea, although the reaction of the internet seems to be mixed However despite the comedic elements, the producers of the show have promised that they will be packing a ton of action into it as well. ThunderCats Roar will premiere on Cartoon Network come 2019.
