Earlier today Bethesda released a teaser trailer for the next installment in the Fallout franchise dubbed Fallout 76. However the trailer did not tell us much about the game nor did Bethesda reveal further information, possibly waiting until E3 2018 to reveal it in full. However a report from Kotaku might have spilled the beans.

For those who have been hoping that Fallout 76 will continue the Fallout franchise of focusing on a single-player RPG experience, you might be disappointed to learn that apparently the game will be an online survival RPG, inspired by other similar games in the genre such as DayZ and Rust.

Kotaku’s report reads in part, “Originally prototyped as a multiplayer version of Fallout 4 with the goal of envisioning what an online Fallout game might look like, Fallout 76 has evolved quite a bit over the past few years, those sources said.” It is expected to still feature quests and a story, but will also include features like base building and other survival and multiplayer-like mechanics.

Based on the comments so far, it seems that not many are reacting well to the news. Like we said Fallout’s appeal has been in its single-player gameplay, so Fallout 76 seems like a huge deviation. However given that we have no idea how it will play, it’s hard to say if it will be good or bad so we’ll just have to wait and see.
