Chinese smartphone manufacturers have been on a mission in recent years to prove that they can very well hold their own against the Samsungs and the Apples of the world. We have seen them introduce handsets with new technologies that more established OEMs have shied away from so far. For example, Vivo was the first to bring a smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Huawei got us all talking about its triple-camera smartphone while Lenovo is preparing what seems to be an all-screen smartphone. If a new report is believed, Huawei has another breakthrough mobile technology that it will announce later this year.

Huawei has established itself as a bonafide player in the smartphone market over the past few years. The company is now one of the biggest smartphone vendors on the planet and it only wants to go up from here.

The company has been able to achieve this position by investing heavily in research and development. It spent close to $14 billion in R&D last year alone and that has resulted in some amazing innovations for its devices.

Huawei is now believed to be sitting on one such invention that it may launch later this year. There’s no information as yet on what this might be, it’s not even known if this is a hardware or software breakthrough, but the report does offer the possibility that whatever this breakthrough is, it may debut on an Honor device first. Honor is Huawei’s sub-brand for more affordable devices. Huawei hasn’t confirmed or denied this report but nevertheless, take it with a grain of salt.
