When Nintendo first announced plans to launch mobile games, many were understandably excited, although that excitement turned to confusion when Nintendo chose to launch Miitomo as their debut title. There was some interest at the start, but that eventually faded resulting in Nintendo announcing earlier this year that the game would be shutting down.

For those who are still playing or have played Miitomo, it seems that the game has officially shut down. In a message posted by Nintendo, “We want to thank you for enjoying Miitomo so much. Miitomo’s service has come to an end as of Wednesday 9th May 2018, 16:00 (JST). We’ve come a long way since the app was launched, and once again we want to thank everyone who’s been involved.”

With that, it seems that Nintendo’s first mobile title has officially come to an end, although clearly this is not the end of Nintendo’s mobile efforts. The company does have several games in the works, such as a Mario Kart for mobile. They have also recently announced the launch of a brand new IP designed exclusively for mobile.

Nintendo’s mobile offerings have been something of a mixed bag. For example Super Mario Run which looked promising ended up not being as profitable as Nintendo would like, but hopefully the company’s future offerings will change that.
