The OnePlus 6 is a handset of many first for the company. OnePlus confirmed several weeks before officially unveiling the device that it would be the company’s first smartphone with a display notch. It’s also the first OnePlus smartphone that has a glass body and now it also happens to be the first one from the company to feature support for seamless Android updates.

What seamless Android updates means is that users will find that over-the-air updates install much faster on the OnePlus 6 than they used to on older devices. The feature enables the device to download and install and over-the-air update in the background.

It doesn’t prevent the user from using the device and they can continue with what they’re doing. The new system changes are applied only when they reboot so there’s no forced reboot after the OTA has been installed. This saves a lot of time because users no longer have to wait for the installation to happen on boot before they can get into the phone again. Since the OTA is already installed, a simple reboot is all that’s needed to apply the changes.

Google has been offering this feature on its Pixel smartphones and other OEMs have added support for seamless updates as well. OnePlus is now the latest OEM to join this list and it’s something that its users will certainly be very happy about.
