Unlocked Moto Z Handsets Getting Oreo In The U.S.

Even though Google has already released a public beta of Android P, the next major iteration of its mobile platform, there are still many devices that have yet to receive an update to the stable version of Android 8.0 Oreo. Its OEM partners are gradually rolling out the update in more markets across the globe. Those who own unlocked Moto Z handsets in the United States can now rejoice as the Oreo update is now being rolled out for them.

Those who own an unlocked Moto Z will now receive an over-the-air update to Android 8.0. Motorola is rolling out the latest firmware update for the handset with model number XT1650-03.

It has been a long wait for unlocked Moto Z owners in the United States as the company has already released this update elsewhere. The same handset actually got Oreo down in Brazil some two months ago.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that word started spreading that some Moto Z handsets had received the update at last. Motorola hadn’t started to roll out the update widely until now, though, and those who couldn’t wait relied on workarounds that require an unlocked bootloader.

The Moto Z Oreo update comes in at 1.4GB which isn’t a surprise seeing as how it’s a major Android platform update. It brings all of the new features included in Oreo as well as the latest Android security patch.
