YouTube Music To Eventually Get Some Of Play Music’s Features

A few days ago, the new YouTube Music streaming service was announced. This followed the rumors from the past few months that suggested that a new YouTube music streaming service would be announced, and one of those rumors even suggested that Google Play Music could be killed off in favor of YouTube Music.

However that was not the case, or at least maybe not yet. In a report from The Verge, Google has confirmed that they will be bringing all of Play Music’s “key features” to YouTube Music eventually, such as user uploads. However exactly what this implies remains to be seen, but according to Elias Roman, the product manager for YouTube Music and Play Music states that, “Nothing will change about Google Play Music in the near future.”

That being said, it’s not hard to see that with Google blurring the lines between YouTube Music and Play Music, we wouldn’t be surprised if eventually they will merge them together or kill Play Music off as the previous rumors have suggested. This was kind of what Apple did when they acquired Beats Music, where the service continued to run for a while which they later transitioned to Apple Music.

It doesn’t make sense for Google to have multiple music streaming services, especially since users can only use one at a time, but in any case we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for Play Music.
