Amazon Reveals Details About its ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Series

Last year Amazon announced and confirmed that they would be developing a new TV series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. Details were scarce but obviously it would be based on the story which also spawned a trilogy of movies many years ago, and also encouraged studios to invest in The Hobbit movie series as well.

Now according to a report from Deadline, newly appointed Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke spoke to the publication in which details about the upcoming series was revealed. For starters it seems that they are still in the early stages of planning which means that we probably shouldn’t expect anything anytime soon.

Salke revealed that they are still in talks with various people in the industry, including director Peter Jackson in which they are trying to determine exactly how involved he wants to be with the series. She also revealed that Amazon will not be remaking the movies in series form, nor will they be starting from scratch, but it is expected to feature the characters that those who read the books and watched the movies are familiar with.

Salke also said that they are considering going back to New Zealand which is where Jackson filmed the movies, but are also looking at other locations. This is expected to be a huge undertaking for Amazon as a couple of months ago, it was reported that the company was planning to spend as much as $1 billion investing in the series, which presumably would be their answer to HBO’s Game of Thrones.
