The Xbox One X was released back in 2017 and it was essentially an upgraded version of the Xbox One that would support native 4K gaming, but for those wondering what else could be in store for the Xbox consoles, you’ll be pleased to learn that Microsoft has revealed that they’ve already started work on the next one.

This was revealed during the company’s E3 2018 presentation where according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, “Our hardware team… is deep into architecting the next Xbox consoles.” Unsurprisingly Spencer did not share details about the console and what we might be able to expect especially since we’re pretty sure it’s still several years away from being ready.

This means that plans and hardware could change throughout the development, so even if Spencer had revealed the details, it’s hard to say if that will remain the same at the end. However he did state that the team will continue to “deliver on our commitment to delivering the benchmark on console gaming.”

Microsoft is not alone in developing their next-gen console. Sony had previously confirmed that the next PlayStation console would be at least 3 years away, which is somewhat in line with analysts who have predicted that next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft would arrive in 2020.
