Considering that Facebook owns a bunch of social media-related products and services, it’s not surprising that the company would want them to synchronize with each other on some level. In fact at some point there was a bit of controversy as Facebook wanted WhatsApp to share their user data with them.

That being said, it seems like something similar is happening with Facebook Messenger and Instagram. Twitter user Jane Manchun Wong has recently discovered that there is an option in Messenger that lets users sync their Instagram contacts with Messenger. The folks at TechCrunch have since confirmed that this is a feature that has been publicly launched.

That being said it sounds like a convenient feature, but according to some users, not everyone is thrilled by it. This is because when pressing the connect button, it basically adds all your Instagram contacts instead of giving users the choice. This means that in some cases where users follow many Instagram profiles, this could get rather messy.

In addition to adding your contacts, pressing the connect button will also show your Instagram username and account to other contacts to Messenger in case they want to add you and follow your account on Instagram. The feature should be live so check it out if this sounds like something you might be interested in.
