We’re sure that many are starting to notice that in recent times, there appears to be an influx of battle royale-style games. Presumably this is due to the success that games like PUBG and Fortnite are experiencing, and also the money that such games are raking in. While the official numbers aren’t available, Superdata might have an inkling of how much money is being made.

According to a recent report published by the market research firm (via Gamesindustry.biz), it seems that Fortnite has reportedly earned Epic a cool $1 billion, and note that because Fortnite is pretty much a free-to-play game, this means that the $1 billion is made purely from in-game purchases.

Several months ago the game launched on iOS where it reportedly pulled in $100 million, which means that combine that with the fact that Fortnite is available on other platforms, it’s not a stretch to think that $1 billion could have been earned. The game is also expected to find its way onto Android devices soon which means that revenue will be going up, assuming Epic manages to maintain the game’s momentum.

Superdata’s report is also claiming that the battle royale genre is currently the most popular across all platforms, which might explain why games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 are including a battle royale mode.
