When it comes to web design and overall UI, there is a difference between those on the web for desktop and those for mobile. This is due to the fact that our mobile devices have a smaller display, oriented differently, and also the way we interact with our mobile devices are different compared to on the computer.

However it seems that there are some elements of mobile design that could benefit those of the desktop, which is why it isn’t surprising to see that Google is testing that theory out. According to a report from Android Police, it appears that Google is testing out a new mobile-style UI for Google Images search for the web.

As you can see in the screenshot above, it seems that Google has borrowed some of the UI elements from the mobile version of Images and applied it to the desktop version. This new UI is also said to be dynamic where it will be made to fit depending on the aspect ratio, which means it should fit regardless of your display’s aspect ratio or how you size your browser window.

So far it appears to be a somewhat limited test as not everyone can see the changes yet, so if you don’t see it don’t worry. It is unclear if Google plans to stick with this new design and roll it out to users, or if they will scrap it, but what do you guys think? Will the desktop version of Google Images benefit from the mobile-style UI?
