Portrait mode on the rear-facing cameras of smartphones is becoming an increasingly common feature. This is typically achieved through hardware by having the extra lens, or in the case of certain phones like the Google Pixels, this is (very convincingly) achieved through software. However portrait mode on front-facing cameras aren’t too common yet.

The OnePlus 6 is one of the few phones to offer the feature, and if you’re the owner of the OnePlus 5 or 5T, not to worry as the feature will soon be making its way onto your handset. This is according to OnePlus who in a post on their forums has promised that the selfie portrait mode from the OnePlus 6 is expected to make its way to older OnePlus handsets like the OnePlus 5 and 5T via a software update.

There is no mention of older OnePlus handsets like the OnePlus 3 or 3T, but as GSMArena points out, the fact that it can be brought onto the OnePlus 5 and 5T means that it might not be a hardware limitation, and that maybe an unofficial port could be done for the OnePlus 3 and/or 3T in the future.

There is no mention of when the feature will be officially ported, so if you’re a OnePlus 5 or 5T user, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for the update’s availability.
