The original Lando Calrissian was played by actor Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back which was released in 1980. According to a new report, he may have joined the next movie in the latest Star Wars trilogy. Williams will reportedly reprise his role as Han Solo’s smuggler friend in Star Wars: Episode IX.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Billy Dee Williams has joined the project as Lando Calrissian. He has been a fan favorite ever since his original appearance as Calrissian so there’s no doubt that fans will be very happy to see him back in the Star Wars universe.

The role of Lando Calrissian, albeit a younger version, was most recently played by Donald Glover in Solo: A Star Wars Story. That movie didn’t really do as well as Lucasfilm might have hoped which may be the reason why it has reportedly halted development of any further standalone movies.

Star Wars: Episode IX is due to be released on December 20th, 2019. Not much is known about the plot at this point in time but it will surely tie up many loose ends from the first two movies in this trilogy. Just what will Calrissian’s role be in all this remains to be seen.
