Samsung introduced its DeX peripheral with the Galaxy S8 last year. It enables the device to power a PC-like experience on an external monitor that’s connected to the handset through the DeX Pad. It’s currently possible to use only one monitor with DeX at this point in time but a new report suggests that Samsung DeX dual monitor support is set to arrive later this year.

Samsung is going to launch its new flagship tablet the Galaxy Tab S4 in the coming months, most likely at the IFA 2018 show in Berlin this September. The new tablet is said to have support for DeX.

The report mentions that Samsung will provide users with the options to use the tablet display as a second monitor when it’s hooked up to DeX. It would make sense to have a tablet in dual monitor mode but the feature could ostensibly work with smartphones as well.

The report doesn’t clarify how the dual monitor mode will work with the tablet since the DeX Pad accessory can’t prop up a tablet. Samsung may have users buy the Book Cover that it’s reportedly going to launch with the Galaxy Tab S4 if they want to use DeX for this purpose.

Compatible Galaxy Note and Galaxy S handsets could get support for the dual monitor mode through a software update not too long after the Galaxy Tab S4 is released later this year with support for this year.
