Many OEMs have decided to join Google’s Android Go initiative to launch cheap handsets with an optimized version of Android that offers a better user experience on devices with less than 1GB of RAM. Reports suggest that Samsung is gearing up to launch an Android Go smartphone as well and today some images of Samsung’s Android Go smartphone have been leaked online.
The accompanying report claims that Samsung is going to launch this device as the Galaxy J2 Core. The name itself suggests that the handset may not run stock Android and the leaked images show this to be the case.
It has rightly been pointed out by the scribe that Android Go doesn’t promise a stock Android experience. It only provides a user experience that’s better suited to cheap Android devices with lightweight versions of apps that require less memory and storage space.
The leaked images of the device do show Google’s Maps Go, YouTube Go, and Google Go apps but the user interface is far from stock Android. It’s running the company’s Samsung Experience user interface with the on-screen navigation and icons resembling premium Samsung devices like the Galaxy S9.
This suggests that Samsung’s first Android Go smartphone will try to offer the best of both worlds, the optimizations of Android Go without the company having to compromise on putting its own touch on the Android OS.
Samsung hasn’t confirmed so far when it will launch its first Android Go smartphone.
