One of the great features of Spotify is helping people discover new music. This is done through curated playlists which are updated frequently. This is beneficial for music listeners who want to discover new artists and songs, but also beneficial for musicians and artists who are hoping to reach new audiences.

The good news for both artists and listeners is that Spotify has rolled out a new feature where artists can now submit unreleased music for consideration for inclusion in playlists. What does this mean for artists? Basically if you have a song that you have yet to release as part of an album, you can now submit it to Spotify where it will be considered whether or not it should be included in playlists.

This means that artists have a chance to release new music sooner, give their fans a taste of what’s coming, and so on. Also as Spotify points out, this gives artists better control over which single they are promoting to their fans and followers. Now whether or not your submission is approved and used by Spotify is not a guarantee.

Spotify claims that no one can pay to be put onto a playlist, meaning that it doesn’t matter if you’re big time artist with a ton of resources and fans, or if you’re an indie artist starting out. As long as your song suits the playlist’s theme/genre, there is a chance you could make the cut.
