Sprint has announced that it’s splitting its unlimited data plan into two tiers with each having its own data allotment and restrictions. The company will continue to sell these as “unlimited” plans even though they can’t be classified as providing a truly unlimited experience for mobile data.

The first tier of Sprint’s two unlimited plans is called Unlimited Basic. It’s a toned-down version of the $60 per month Sprint Unlimited Freedom plan. Users will get 500MB of hotspot data while video will be throttled down to 480p. A Hulu subscription is available as well with this tier.

Unlimited Plus is the second tier of the split unlimited plan. Subscribers will get 15GB of LTE hotspot data every month with no video throttling. Subscribers also receive a free subscription to Tidal and Hulu for the same amount. Both plans offer roaming options in Canada and Mexico as well.

Sprint is taking some criticism for this move as some suggest that the company merely wanted to raise the price of its unlimited plan and decided to do that by launching a new tier of its cellular plan which is slightly better than the previous version. The new tiers for Sprint’s unlimited mobile data plan will be live starting tomorrow, Friday, July 13th.
