Warner Bros. recently cashed in on the popularity of its Westworld TV series by releasing a game for smartphones called Westworld Mobile. Those who downloaded the game were quick to notice that it had some similarities to Fallout Shelter, a mobile-only game released by Bethesda some time ago. Behaviour Interactive was the developer that worked on both games and Bethesda later filed a lawsuit against the developer and WB that its source code was used in the development of Westworld Mobile. WB has now responded to the matter.

Bethesda’s lawsuit claimed that the source code for Fallout Shelter was reused during the development of Westworld Mobile. Bethesda wants the game to be taken offline aside from damages. The allegation has now been disputed by Warner Bros. which says that the game contains no code from Bethesda’s project.

The company has said in a statement that “Warner Bros. has a deep respect for intellectual property rights. As such, the assertions by Bethesda Softworks that Warner’s Westworld mobile game improperly used source code from Bethesda’s Fallout Shelter are as surprising as they are unsubstantiated.”

The company adds that it has been assured by Behaviour Interactive that Bethesda’s allegations are not true and that none of the latter’s code was used in Westworld Mobile. Warner Bros. also said that it never “induced” the developer to use code from Fallout Shelter in Westworld Mobile.

Bethesda is yet to comment on this latest development.
