YouTube confirmed back in March this year that it would release a dark mode for its mobile apps. The mode was actually released first for the iOS app even though many would have expected it to arrive for the Android version first. A few months after the YouTube dark mode made its appearance on iOS, it’s finally available for YouTube on Android devices.

The dark mode was first added for YouTube on the desktop late last year. It was then revealed that the mobile apps would get it as well starting with the iOS version.

The YouTube for Android dark mode has been rolled out quietly it appears. Even though a formal announcement of sorts has not been made that this mode is available for Android, users can now find it applied automatically with a pop-up at the bottom of the screen which mentions that this feature is available now. Users will get an option to turn off the mode and dismiss the prompt.

The “Dark theme” toggle can also be located in the Settings menu where it’s listed under the General menu just below the “Remind me to take a break” feature. Even though the mode applies the dark theme to much of the app, the channels will keep their colorful app bars even though the video player remains black before it fully loads.
