The problem with non-Pixel smartphones is that they are usually slow when it comes to receiving Android updates, especially major ones. However in the case of the Essential Phone, it seems that the folks at Essential wasted no time because shortly after Google announced the release of Android 9.0 Pie, Essential made the update available for their flagship handset.

According to Essential, “We’re proud to announce that Android 9 Pie is now available on Essential Phone! Your experience with Essential Phone is important to us. And that’s why our team worked so hard to make sure you got the latest version of Android on launch day.” This release is impressive because this is pretty much almost the same time the update was released for Pixel devices.

That being said, we’re not sure how long it will take before other Android OEMs get on board and release the update for their devices. However to be fair, Essential pretty much only has one phone in their portfolio at the moment, which means that they won’t need to juggle updating for multiple handsets that other companies will have to do.

However it is still a very impressive move by the company and hopefully they will be able to maintain that speed for future devices (if there ever is one).
